How do I know if I have a blockage?

It’s likely that you’ll discover a blocked drain the hard way:

  • Flooding,
  • Leaking,
  • Burst pipes, or
  • Damage to your property

To avoid these inconveniences, it’s good to know the early signs of a blocked drain:

  • Slow draining sinks
  • Unpleasant smells
  • Gurgling sounds

Look out for slow-draining sinks or drains. This is generally a good indication that your drain is becoming blocked or clogged.

You might also notice unpleasant smells – this could be anything from your sewer system connections, food in your kitchen sink, or an unfortunate fate of a rodent.

Listen for any gurgling sounds from your drains. This is an indication of a problem, as the gurgle noise is caused by trapped air in the pipework. It’s often due to buildups in the drain, or damage to the sewer lines.

How On Call Plumbing Can Help:

Not all blockages can be easily fixed at home. You might think you’ve solved a problem, but often that’s not the case. Drains need to be properly cleaned and sterilised, and professional plumbers have the right specialist equipment to achieve this – such as water jets and cable machines.

At times, we’ll need to replace parts of your pipework, and other times your drains will need relining.

Small problems can become big problems quickly, so it’s important to get a professional to inspect your problem as quickly as possible.

In the case that you’ve got a blocked drain, we’re here to help.
